Owner of this project removed about 5000 sq ft of sod lawn and wanted a much lower maintenance landscape saving time on labor, maintenance and water. The results of this finished project are an access pathway around the house. As well as a decorative stone area next to the Airplane hangar for overflow plane parking. Purple quartzite is used on the raised mounds as ground cover with the larger areas 1/2 inch open blue quarry.

Suppliers for this project: Soil, Hardscape, drip Irrigation, fabric and other materials.
Landscape Shoppe
Ewing Irrigation
Kuenzi Turf

This large project is being done by a friend of mine who owns FX Landscape in Newport, Oregon. The product is the Canyon XL Grey block. This project has a number of unique applications. It will have steps up from the street as well as a 2 sided wall on the upper lawn to act as a courtyard area. What I think is really unique about these pictures is that it almost perfectly matches the stone on the house and when finished with plant materials it will look identical.
Owner of this West Salem project also had a falling down wood wall. We replaced it with our new Roxblock Canyon Grey wall. Roxblock is a new product for us that we are stocking at the Landscape Shoppe in West Salem. This is their Canyon Grey with the Grey Large Cap. This product is unique to the area and different than other manufacturers that we have in this area. The deep grooved split faces look like real rock when installed without the cost of a rock wall. This is a good DIY product for homeowners looking for the rock wall look without the expertise of installing one.
Pete and Leslie Norris, are longtime friends and we do their landscape maintenance in West Salem. We replaced their falling down wood retaining wall with a new Anchor Diamond Wall.

We plant a lot of trees every year and we sell and plant many trees at the Landscape Shoppe. A common mistake that I see happen is that many, when planting trees, just don’t put the effort into the process…. Yes, it can be a big effort! I regularly consult on trees that have died or are sick and unhealthy. 90% of the time it goes back to the original planting process. The clay soils in our area will grow plants and grass just fine but they need to be amended. I typically see a plant installed in the same size hole as the root ball or container size that it came out of.

This West Salem back yard sloped steeply down hill, combined with the small children in the household they needed a very steep, high wall. This wall had to be engineered because of the height of the wall and the amount of water flow from runoff.

We chose to use an engineer from the Portland area that had a lot of experience with the large boulders and together we created a design and implementation plan that gave the owners what they were looking for. Also included was new rye grass sod lawn, Hunter underground sprinkler system, imported top soil, soil amendments, plant materials.

When I first looked at this West Salem project the owner had a good idea of what he wanted, I have to admit it took me a little while to get his vision but eventually after a couple of meetings we landed upon an over all idea and theme. They had a very steep hill that was difficult at best to walk on, they wanted paths and a tree fort like deck to sit out in nature and listen to the stream and the birds in the background. In the landscape industry most outdoor projects are one of a kind and this one definitely fits that category.
The owners of this West Salem home wanted a new back yard, the orignal concrete patio was small and beginning to break up, so we installed the Jamestown Park and Plaza stone from Western Interlock on the patio and pathway leading to the front of the house, again this is a very popular stone with the blend of colors and variety of patterns we install more of this stone than any other. New sod lawn, enhancements to the sprinkler system.
Independence is the location of this fine project, again another example of the Jamestown Park and Plaza paver stone and Sandstone Tegula block from Western Interlock. We also contructed a water feature from a combination Tegula block and Park and Plaza paver stone, rye grass sod lawn, Hunter underground sprinkler system.
