When I first looked at this West Salem project the owner had a good idea of what he wanted, I have to admit it took me a little while to get his vision but eventually after a couple of meetings we landed upon an over all idea and theme. They had a very steep hill that was difficult at best to walk on, they wanted paths and a tree fort like deck to sit out in nature and listen to the stream and the birds in the background. In the landscape industry most outdoor projects are one of a kind and this one definitely fits that category. For starters the area to be worked on was so steep you could hardly stand on it so we built the main middle walkway to store materials and access the free standing deck. There were also some existing retaining walls that needed to be built, and some irrigation to be installed. The Deck and stairs are made of all pressure treated wood the owners didn't want to have any dry rot problems in their lifetime, they also did not mind the pressure treated look. The roof was of metal and overall I am very pleased with the outcome of this project, the degree of difficulty, custom construction of the decking combined with the slope made for a steep learning curve on our part but overall the project and the owners cooperation were definitely worth the learning curve in the long run.
